Our Conductor

Sean McKee came to the Rogue Valley in 2006 from southern California where he appeared as soloist,

music educator, ensemble member, musical director, and clinician. His musical training began with

learning to play the trombone in the fourth grade, and continued with other wind instruments and piano

through junior and senior high school. One of his early achievements included recognition as the

youngest all-time member of the Anaheim Community Band in the early 1980s.

He earned a Bachelor of Music/Music Education Degree in 1990 and Masters in Musicology from

California State University, Long Beach in 2006. Sean taught for fourteen year in the Anaheim Union High

School District as both a junior and senior high school music director, and worked with the Disney

Summer Arts program and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. He was also designated as a

Mentor Teacher, assisting colleagues and new educators.

Since 2006, Mr. McKee has been the Music Director at Lorna Byrne Middle School and Illinois Valley High

School, Director of the Rogue Community College Chorale in Grants Pass, Director of Choirs at South and

North Middle Schools in Grants Pass School District 7, and taught graduate level music education courses

at Southern Oregon University. He has also appeared as performer and conductor with the Jefferson

Baroque Orchestra. Sean was awarded the American Legion Teacher of the Year Award for the state of

Oregon in 2009, and served as MC and Orchestra Director for the Grants Pass Messiah Sing-a-Long in

2012 and 2013.

McKee has performed in the greater Orange County, Los Angeles, and Southern Oregon areas, as well as

in Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, and Italy. Sean was a founding member of the

choral ensemble De Angelis, has appeared with the Long Beach Symphony, Long Beach Pops Orchestra,

and the Britt Festival Orchestra. He has starred as ‘Seymour’ in Little Shop of Horrors, and portrayed

‘Tony’ in You Can’t Take it With You.
